Blue: The cool color is hot for fall 2015

blue, green, Ralph Lauren, Ricky bag, stilettos, fall 2015 fashion, fashion, style, accessories
Go for all tints of blue, ranging from green to purple

I must confess, I love blue. It’s my favorite color, every shade, though I have a soft spot for navy. Thus, I am so excited for this upcoming season, why? the it color is BLUE! From nail polishes, mascaras, and eyeshadows to heels, bags and clothes, get ready for a world of blue, the greatest hue.

The picture above, though filled with so many tints of blue, manages to pull it all together because of the small details. The turned-up cuffs of her jacket create a drastic contrast, and the green bag with blue sides manages to pull together the look with another dose of color. In case you were wondering, the bag is a Ralph Lauren Ricky bag. I look at it as a classic, great bag that can hold a lot. I have one and I consider it one of my best investments because it is always chic, incredibly classic and the yellow sides of my blue bag create a pop of color. A great investment bag is almost always in style.

So. How can you stay stylish this fall in the greatest color of all? Invest in pieces that you can transition through many seasons with. Darker tints of blue are always classic, though if you want a pop, try a pair of bright blue heels or a bright blue bag. Light blue tops or dresses can be applied to many outfits and can be taken from work to fun. A blue suit is in style whether it be the boardroom or using the blazer for a dressy weekend look.

Tip: Add hints of other colors to your blue look in order break up the blues. Try a bright red lip or nails.

Makeup Tip: If you’re looking to use blue makeup, try blue eyeshadow with green or brown eyes–if you’re blue eyed, shades of brown will accentuate your eye color, natural beauty for the win.

You’ve got style: Share your talent

couple, fashion, berlin, fall, summer, style, chic
A pair that dresses together, stays together

We all have our own styles, some prefer classic looks and some prefer to wear looks right off the runway. Within a couple, the tastes can vary drastically. For example, I love classic shirts tucked into jeans and idolize 1950s Dior silhouettes. My man, however, embraces the “college chic” look, and has a closet riddled with tech t-shirts and a pair or two of jeans. That’s totally okay, I secretly adore his little closet–including the “You like this” t-shirt with a FaceBook thumbs up that he wore on our first date.

But, how do you ensure that your man looks good when you both go out? How do you help to build his closet? It’s simple. Start with the basics, like this street look from Berlin fashion week. The looks don’t have to be complicated. In fact, the simpler the piece of clothing, the easier it is to incorporate it into several different looks. Here, for example, the man’s navy blazer can go over any shirt and be worn at any time, his pants can also be worn at anytime–dressed up or down. The white shirt? It can be worn with everything, even as an undershirt or it can be worn to sleep.

A man’s closet needs only a few staples: dress shirts, a suit or two, some casual shirts, a pair of jeans and some good shoes–athletic and dress. After that, feel free to expand on the basics and experiment, though the most important thing is that he feels comfortable and embraces the style.

Tip: Invest in the basics. Great shoes, a dress shirt, suit and a nice pair of jeans, when taken care of, can last for a very long time… Don’t forget the shoe trees!

My advice: Look to your closet to inspire your man’s looks. Love neutrals? See how he looks in a neutral look. You love a certain brand? There’s a good chance that if the same brand manufactures men’s clothes, they’re of the same caliber, and maybe he’ll learn to appreciate them as well. Just remember, the process is not instant, but it’s worth it.

Black: Always chic, how about sheer?

Black, fashion, vogue, tommy ton, paris, france, style
When in doubt, black is always a great color

Black is always a great color, we know that. It’s slimming, it’s classic, it’s always in style and even an all black outfit rarely produces a fashion faux pas. This all black outfit is certainly always in style. I think of it as a look that says, “chase me, boys.” It looks effortless, just out of bed, polished, and reveals just enough skin to make a statement and grab attention.

Recently I have been into French fashion, and this is another example. I love how Parisiennes are able to take simple clothes, such as this black sheer top, classic black bra and black skirt and create a stunning look. Where this look becomes amazing is in the fabrics and in the accessories.

Tip: Keep accessories chic, but not super bright (such as neon) so as to not distract from the classic black.

Go retro with tortoise shell sunglasses and add a pop of color with a carried purse or clutch. A look such as this is enhanced by the details. The sheer top and opaque black bra bring a hint of risqué, but still leave a blank canvas.

Tip: Sheer items help you stay cool in the summer. If black is too harsh, try a sheer navy!

This look is incredibly universal. It can be made to look fashionable in any decade and in nearly any place! See if this look, or more of your favorite looks pop up for the prices you determine at Dose.nyc! Subscribe today and look fashionable without breaking the bank!

Color: Bring the Mediterranean home

Cannes, street style, NYMag, Dior, Red
A classic red never goes out of style

Think about it, when is red not in style? In the summer, it’s a bright pop of color. In the fall, the shade of red may darken a bit, but some leaves will turn bright red. In the winter? Holiday time! In the spring? Channel your inner Dutch and find some red tulips to match.

I love versatility and the ability to make an outfit fashionable throughout the year and throughout time. In this picture, taken in Cannes (I know, I’ve got France on the mind thanks to haute couture shows and the lovely South of France), the stark contrast between the hues of blue from the water to the towels and the bright red of the dress is simply stunning. As with the French theme, the hat is a necessity–if only to protect your face and prevent premature aging.

So what makes this look work wonders? The length of the dress falls right at mid-calf level and is appropriate for most every occasion. It’s classic, and rarely would someone suffer a fashion faux-pas with this length. Low heels keep this look simple, comfortable and effortless. Interested in even more comfort? Try a pair of flats or sandals with the look.

Tip: Invest, invest, invest! Invest in the classics, like a bag similar to the one pictured, or a dress that can be worn to every occasion at every time of year.

The three C’s: Cool, Casual, Comfortable

Style, fashion, Paris, Comfortable, Casual
Stay cool, casual, comfortable and stylish with this year-round look

Let’s be honest, the summer can be hot and winter can be cold, but how many looks can make that transition? Here’s one of my favorite looks seen street-side at the Haute Couture shows in Europe. Not only is this look classic, it is also something that can be worn all around the world in every season.

As a child, there was nothing worse than my mother tucking in my shirt or being required to during a soccer game, but as I grew older, I learned the importance and magic of tucking in. Now I’m in love. It makes a person look slimmer, look more “put together” without trying, and in my opinion it makes a look go from work to play seamlessly.

This look above is very summer and very très chic. A thin shirt keeps you cool, the jeans keep you classy, and the belt separates the varying hues of blue. With a small classic bag, like above, look stylish for a lifetime. If you have long hair, take this look to work with your hair in a bun, and after work, let your hair down to soft waves and no worries!

Tip: In summer, look for linen shirts. They keep you cool and can be warmed up in winter by wearing a sweater over them.

Tip: Keep this look simple, including makeup. Try some light eyeliner and mascara with a light lipstick, but focus on your skin–moisturize and make it glow.

Borrowing from the boys and vintage: Paris edition

style, fashion, startup
Even after a year, Paris street style can inspire your wardrobe

Although this picture was taken approximately a year ago, it continues to portray today’s trends, as well as represent the oh so effortlessly put together Paris chic. Here we have a side by side comparison of two great trends–50s vintage and the menswear inspired look.

The contradiction of checked print to solid and the addition of a knotted blouse on the fashion week devotee, center left, is easy to pull together and is achievable on a budget. Tip: One way to pick out a quality printed skirt is to see the matching of patterns on the seams (evidenced by the upward “arrows” on the side of this checked skirt).

Feeling powerful? Try a full three-piece suit! On this fashion week devotee, center right, the lavender colored suit adds femininity; the charcoal grey vest adds an edge and the printed tie adds a dose of fun. How can this look be affordable? Invest in a quality three-piece suit and incorporate each piece everywhere: the possibilities are endless! Tip: Wear the jacket and slacks to work over a blouse, the vest over a collared shirt for a weekend trip or throw the jacket over a t-shirt and pair it with jeans for a fun night out!
