Brunch Basics: what to wear this weekend.

When 11am on a Sunday rolls around, we know where you’ll be: brunch. Brunch is a major weekend attraction, but one without a particularly strict dress code. Because of this, you may be tempted to throw on your go-to outfit (read: the clothes from your morning spin class). Before you go that route, we’ve got chic yet comfy styles for you to check out. Try incorporating these style elements into your next brunch outfit.

Oversized Tops

Let’s be real – it’s the weekend, and we all want to feel comfortable. That’s where oversized tops come in: they keep you warm, cozy, and chic. Try picking tops made with luxurious fabrics – wool and cashmere come to mind. Neutral tones – black, white, beige, and gray – make for easy matching so you don’t have to overthink your outfit.

Boyfriend Jeans

Not into going oversize on top? Choose a looser-fitting bottom. Boyfriend jeans are one of the comfiest styles around, and a distressed pair is perfect for weekend lounging. If you’re feeling ambitious, pair yours with heels; if not, we get you – flats or little booties are perfect for weekend vibes.

Sneakers

We love a good athletic shoe… and not the pair you wore to the gym. Perhaps you reserve a pair of sneakers specifically for a casual look. You know, the ones that look super cute but would probably be a nightmare to run in. Now’s the time to bring those out. Pair your athletic shoe with more structured pieces to keep your look on point.

What to wear to work? Three work staples.

The age-old question upon getting out of bed, taking a shower, and drinking a cup (let’s be real – maybe two cups) of coffee is: what do I wear to work? This is context-specific of course, depending on what policy your office upholds – business casual, business formal, or smart casual – but three pieces seem to pull through, no matter what the context. Here’s our round-up:

Blazer: The trusted blazer is a super versatile piece that takes you from the office to cocktail hour in style. For a business formal look, stick with dark tones (black, navy, grey) and pair with a slim pencil skirt or a fitted pant of the same shade. For business casual, feel free to mix up the tones – a blazer does not need to be the same color as the bottom! Pair a black blazer with a patterned pencil skirt or slim pants in a different shade (grey and navy do the trick, but pick a bright shade if you’re feeling edgy!) For smart casual, wear a blazer with a basic tee and a skinny jean, and you’re already looking polished.

We’ve got two blazer picks from Dose here and here.

Black (or Nude!) Heels: Heels instantly elevate your office look – while black heels are definitely the safer bet, we think nude heels look amazing if styled correctly (this becomes a bit trickier in the fall and winter-time when warmth becomes a key concern, and tights come into play). For business formal, black or nude heels add a kick to your power suit; for business casual, they make any outfit look instantly polished; and for smart casual, they make you stand out among a sea of flats – in a good way!

White Silk Button-Down: A white silk button-down always get you through. Equipment makes great ones! Pair your white silk button-down with slim-cut jeans and loafers for a quick and easy smart casual look. For business casual, take your white silk button-down, pair it with a slim pant, and throw on some leopard print kitten heels for a fun and chic look. For business formal, use your white silk-button down as a base, and add on a jacket + pencil skirt + heel to look instantly professional.
