When Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana decide to put on a couture show, it becomes a “can’t miss” party. Thus, I have long admired the sparkles, crystals, glamour, pomp and circumstance that glide along the runway at Dolce & Gabbana’s Alta Moda shows, especially the most recent for fall 2015. With price tags beyond belief, a girl can dream.
How, though, can you take 1920s-inspired Italian Dolce couture to the street and make it work for your wardrobe and your budget? Accessorize! These looks above are incredibly detailed from the carefully placed buttons to the painstakingly perfectly appliquéd crystals, so think about that when you’re styling your look. Keep it in the details, mostly. Look for a sequined little clutch, a glittered head piece, a crystal necklace or bedazzled shoes. A well-sequined dress, shirt or skirt, though, can be a showstopper–with simple accessories.
Personally, my way to make my outfit sparkle is to add a touch of my glitter loafers, crystallized jewelry, or a sequined shirt–each shines like a disco ball, though I only wear one piece of sparkle at a time in order to emphasize what I want instead of over-doing it.
Tip: Keep things neutral, think of what body part is being emphasized and make it look amazing!
For example, I’ll wear a white button-down, a fitted black skirt, a sequined mini bag, with perhaps a bejeweled bracelet, and classic pumps. All the attention is around my hands–therefore, I make sure to have well moisturized hands and freshly manicured nails.
Makeup tip: Wearing sequins? Keep makeup simple and classic–as much as thick winged eyeliner. Not wearing sequins? Try sparkly eyeshadow, make those lips shine with gloss! (Though not at once, unless you’re going for a “showgirls” look)
